We saw the occasional monkey cross the road as we made our way to the small coastal town, where we caught a small boat to the cave. The tide was out so we had to fill in time by visiting and swimming from a large sand island. The tide was still low when we arrived at the location of the cave. Our boat was parked 300 meters away from the pier, The walk to the pier in the shallow water, allowed us to wonder at the amount of large two-tone brown starfish scattered all around us. The cave itself has a steep wooden ladder at the entrance. They say it is best to arrive around 10 am as the sun is at the right height to fill the cave with light. We arrived later and the cave was partially filled with light. You need to climb down a rocky surface to the water which may be challenging for some. The experience was well worth the effort. Whilst we could swim in safety, and could see the water's edge in natural light, the back of the cave on our visit was black with no light. For us, this just added to the mystery of the cave. We loved the visit. Food was surprisingly good and was enough. We had been given also some fruits and choco biscuits with coffee in the afternoon. Enough water for everyone for the duration of the obvious that when it comes to wildlife there are no promises, but we were extremely luck to see all that we went for. Manta rays, coral reefs, Komodo dragons and amazing flora and fauna underwater. Snorkelling equipment was good and also for the ones that couldnā€™t swim, vests were provided and the crew was keeping an eye on people in water at all felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed our day! Overall we felt Doddy did an excellent job of organizing our excursion, delivering exactly what he had promised. Our guide, Robert, was thoughtful and conscientious, and the crew worked hard to run the boat and deliver decent meals. We experienced some electrifying encounters with Komodo Dragons and experienced many other unforgettable moments. I should caution that for what we paid, the accommodations were hardly luxurious. When booking my tour, I just asked the price, got an answer from Doddy, and figured that was that. Now that Iā€™ve been there, I think maybe I should have gotten more information about what a somewhat more upgraded experience would cost. Clearly there are many boat options in Labuan Bajo. We had a fantastic guide, who helped us with all of our questions and also guided us during all the activities. The boat team worked tirelessly to ensure all of our needs were catered to. We were well fed with plenty of snacks throughout the day and the food was lovely. The highlight of our trip was snorkelling with Manta Rays, spotted by the captain who very kindly stopped and allowed us to jump in and snorkel with them. It gives you a taste of Flores in a very short amount of time for the time-constrained. We first stopped at Padar Island which honestly is a bit overcrowded at the very early stages of the morning; however, we got there at the tail end of tourists climbing down the mountain and had the mountain pretty much to ourselves. The size of our group was perfect about 15 people max whereas some tours had upwards of 40 on each boat. The pink beach, in the beginning, was a nice warm-up to the snorkeling that occupied the second half of the tour after lunch. The Komodo dragons were very fun to see, and I thought that was going to be my favorite part of the tour. But my actual favorite was getting to see giant manta rays and stunning coral later on. Very knowledgeable, care about your trip, care about your enjoyment and safety during the trip. The itinerary- the day covers a lot of ground and you get to see and enjoy a lot of really cool experiences. Lunch- lunch was tasty and dietary requirements are catered for. Negatives The rangers in Komodo National Park were knowledgable, and we did come across a couple of dragons which was awesome. We were able to get photos with one from a safe distance where the animal was not touched or any of the visitors went anywhere near them and there was always a good distance. However, the dragon was a little chill and fell asleep- not a problem, itā€™s hot, itā€™s a dragon and can do whatever it wants! But the wardens didnā€™t like it and used their sticks to poke the dragon to wake up. No. No. No. no. No. No. Absolutely lost me from that point. It was absolutely unnecessary. Whilst I appreciate that this is a third party to the tour itself- it is still a part of the tour and I didnā€™t like the fact that I was contributing to these people who claim to care for these magnificent animals, but also care more for the tourist pictures. I get itā€™s a business, but Iā€™m not down for that- especially when everyone could see that it had just walked over and had stopped here for a nap. The snorkelling was good- lots of fish and colourful coral, however there was an expectation of being a strong swimmer, and you defo got left behind if you werenā€™t. Our hotel was up on Eden Beach area in Labuan Bajo and they were very accommodating even was there early before our pick up time too! Our guide even took our most favorite pictures. These guys know angles for sure! Hahaha But for the tour part of it I was personally blown away by Komodo Island specifically! We saw 10 Dragons!! The guide told us we were very lucky as most people donā€™t get to see that many on the medium trail we did! He was also super informative about the park as well! This part of the trip made my whole year I think! Snorkeling is a MUST do! The guys provide all the equipment including life jackets if you want onethe ocean can be kind of choppy or if you donā€™t, you can dive all the way down to hangout with the Manta Rays and the Sea Turtles! Donā€™t forget to pack your hiking shoes! Youā€™ll be walking a lot but having a lot of fun no doubt! Thank you for your review!Negatives first confusing communication as original message gave time for pick up but lay the night before got conflicting info to meet 15 mins earlier. However the actual pick up was closer to the original?? At the harbor, sorting into the different boats was a little confusing as well, but they have a system I just didnā€™t understand it. On Komodo Island they had us stand around for a long time as there were no dragons near and a ranger went to ā€œchaseā€ one in our direction. It did prove successful and we saw it in its natural habitat walking along, so I guess worth it for that. When we got back to the beach there was one lying in the sun we saw up close. The extra time waiting also put us behind. Those negatives were the difference between the 4-5 stars. Positives everyone was so polite and crew were very helpful in many ways helping all the passengers have a lovely time. Padar Island and the hike was so beautiful and a highlight of the trip. It was super hot so be prepared! Pink beach is unique but not the place for snorkeling. Just enjoy a walk along the pink sands and enjoy the shade and beauty. Seeing the manta rays was awesome and I could have stayed a lot longer but we were behind schedule. Snorkeling along the sandbar was another highlight as it was amazing! Great, helpful guides. Well organized. Last stop was to Ć¢ā‚¬Å“chillĆ¢ā‚¬ĀĆ¢ā‚¬ā€could have skipped this stop and snorkeled at a better organized, crammed schedule, but you may see tour was very disorganized and tried to cram too much into a day. The 600am pick up was late. When we arrived at the departure site no coffee, beverage, or food of any kind was provided. The boat was comfortable and in good condition but lacked full of people. The visit to Padar Island was perfect for time and Instagramable views. The Pink Beach seemed like filler but at least we could buy fried noodles and coffee. The visit to Komodo Island was great in that we saw several Komodo dragons, but we were not allowed any options before arriving we were told we. Oils do one of two hikes as long as we were back in time for the departure. The next stop for snorkeling was 30 min and too short to be of value. The snorkeling at Manta Point was fine but also short it would have been better to go straight from Komodo Island to Manta Point and have more time there the final stop was long enough to relax and have a drink. When we returned to the departure point it was chaotic. No vehicles waited for us and it took more than 30 minutes to get the included transport back to the hotel. When I mentioned to my hotel proprietor the experience he called the tour company that said that since I used a third party Viator to purchase the tour I got less service than if I had paid directly. That excuse did not appear to be true given that others at my hotel did book directly and were treated the same. If I had it to do again I would book a private tour to Padar Island and Komodo Island with another company. If I were Viator I would question my relationship with an operator that gave my clients sub par service because my booking oortal was used. This tour gets three stars because I saw a lot of Komodo dragons. That is the only reason. If, as we were told when we set off, we might jot and hadnĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢t seen dragons, IĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢d give this 2 stars. Es wƃĀ¤re besser, englischsprachige Touristen extra in eine Gruppe zu packen Unterweisungen mƃĀ¼ssen nicht immer auf zwei sprachen erfolgen um den Erwartungen besser nach zukommen.
